My new co-therapist Zack became a part of my "therapy team" in April 2010. Zack is a large dog (he is a Collie mix), but he is extremely gentle and loving. Most of the time he naps during therapy sessions, but occasionally he provides therapeutic services in the form of unconditional love and affection.

HOW DO I CHANGE?
Change your mind and change your life. How we think is extremely powerful. Changing how we think can be healing and liberating. Most of the time we need help when we're working to change old thought patterns and behaviors. A guide and a partner in the process can be invaluable. Dr. Jane Barton specializes in cognitive-behavioral therapy and in helping people overcome cognitive roadblocks to achieve their hopes and dreams.
There are times when we all need help. Bouts of depression, anxiety, ulcers, auto-immune disorders and other physical health problems can occur because of stress, loss or emotional trauma. These in turn can lead to alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders or some other compulsive destructive behaviors. Our relationships, our work, and our spiritual life can all be negatively impacted. And when this begins to happen, it's time to get some help.
Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.
We all need support from time-to-time to deal with loss and change. We especially need help to uncover and learn about what is driving self-destructive behavior. Often the driving force is old, unhealed wounds from our past. The first steps toward healing include awareness, understanding and compassion for our injured selves. Then lasting cognitive and behavioral change can begin.
